Forensic Psychiatry
Forensic psychiatry research in Oxford includes a number of projects in prison health, epidemiology of mental illness and violent crime, forensic services, older criminals, and suicide in offenders. For more information on our current research projects please click here.
The group includes Dr Seena Fazel, Wellcome Turst Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Science and Honorary Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist; Katrina Witt, DPhil student; Achim Wolf, Research Assistant; Professor Martin Grann, Honorary Fellow and Professor of Forensic Psychology; and Professor Niklas Langstrom, Senior Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Centre for Violence Prevention, Karolinska Institute.
Close links exist with the Centre for Suicide Research and a number of recent projects on suicide in prisoners involve collaboration with Professor Keith Hawton. There are a number of projects ongoing with the Social Psychiatry group headed by Professor Tom Burns, and with the Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department, Karolinska Institute (Prof Paul Lichtenstein) Centre for Violence Prevention, Karolinska Institute (Prof Niklas Langstrom, Director; Dr Martin Grann)
Funding for research projects comes from the Wellcome Trust, Stanley Medical Foundation, NHS R&D Programme in Forensic Mental Health, the Swedish MRC, and the Nuffield Foundation.
Honorary Senior Lecturers in Forensic Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry include Dr Clive Meux.
