Rod Macrae

Communications Manager, DPUK and BrainWaves

I'm working with the Dementias Platform UK and BrainWaves teams managing communications for both programmes.

For DPUK I am maintaining and updating the website, creating content for social media as well as helping to organise our Translation conference and other events. With partnerships and collaborations with others in dementia research, there is a lot of stakeholder management to be done too.

BrainWaves is an adolescent mental health programme which launched in 2023. Along with communicators at our major partner, The Day, I am managing communications with the education world, research community and with young people.

Before coming to Psychiatry, I worked as a radio and TV journalist with Reuters, the BBC and ITV before a short time as Communications Director at Greenpeace International and much longer at my own communications consultancy. It was during my time running my business that I developed a love of science communications through projects ranging from polar science and exploration to hydrogen fuel cells, climate change and sustainability.
