This online course is specifically designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health professionals, mental health pharmacists and neuroscientists with an interest in evidence synthesis and evidence-based practice, although it is open to all.

Professor Andrea Cipriani, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, leads the 3rd year of the Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses course.

Experts from the Oxford Precision Psychiatry Lab (OxPPL) will outline the most up-to-date knowledge and methods in the field, and how to publish them. The curriculum encompasses the production process of a systematic review from start - review question and protocol - to finish - reporting, dissemination, and critical appraisal - and beyond - publishing. 

The topics covered will include:

  • Protocol
  • Search strategy
  • Basic concepts on statistical analysis of RCTs
  • Study selection
  • Risk of bias
  • Reporting of results (PRISMA guidelines)
  • Performing meta-analysis (theory and practice of Review Manager, R and STATA)
  • Paper submissions
  • Practical project presentation
