Evidence synthesis for precision in psychiatry

I manage the Oxford Precision Psychiatry Lab (oxPPL) CI: Professor Andrea Cipriani, focusing on evidence-based mental health and precision psychiatry.

I started my career by completing my undergraduate studies in Clinical Sciences at the University of Bradford. I then went on to complete my PhD at the University of Manchester in the field of Adult ADHD. During my PhD I designed and executed an extensive series of preclinical experiments by developing and validating an animal model, which specifically focused on the subtypes in adult ADHD. I then moved away from preclinical work and designed a follow-on clinical study, investigating the effects of stimulant and non-stimulant medication on cognition (including emotion recognition) in adults with ADHD.

Following my PhD, I completed the Graduate Entry Medical Degree at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. Whilst at Oxford I developed a fascination and keen interest in evidence synthesis. My interest in evidence synthesis is focussed on network meta-analysis and individual patient data meta-analysis, trying to assess the validity, breadth, structure and interpretation of these different statistical approaches to better inform mental healthcare decision-making process. I am currently leading a number of large-scale network-meta-analysis projects in mood disorders and ADHD, as part of this work I have built and curated large datasets of randomised trials. I also teach on the Oxford Systematic Review and Network-Meta-Analysis course in the Department.

My expertise is working with individual patient data. I am currently building a dataset of individual patient data from randomised trials to inform a treatment prediction algorithm in depression - the PETRUSHKA Project part of Prof Cipriani's NIHR Research Professorship. I am also the PI on a digital mental health study - PAIDEIA. 

I also have a position at Green Templeton College where I teach medical students and graduate students. I also continue my work as a clinician across a number of NHS trusts in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire regions.
