Anti Harassment and Bullying

Message from the Head of Department

Zero tolerance to bullying and harassment is an essential requirement for a happy, healthy and creative working environment. We should treat each other with mutual respect, courtesy and consideration.  This is a shared responsibility and we expect all staff and students to uphold the University’s Harassment Policy by:

  • Treating others with dignity and respect.
  • Discouraging any form of harassment by making it clear that such behaviour is unacceptable.
  • Supporting any member of the University who feels they have been subject to harassment, including supporting them to make a formal complaint if appropriate.

To achieve this, we ensure that everyone receives training on equality and diversity and bullying and harassment on joining the department.  We have two trained harassment officers, Phil Cowen and Catherine Harmer, who are available to talk to you at any time.  Their contact details are displayed around the department, along with details of other support services within the University.

Our dedicated Athena SWAN committee continues to monitor and assess our efforts to eradicate bullying and harassment, and to ensure these efforts are embedded in our action plans. If you have questions or concerns about this process, please contact the Athena SWAN Lead, Susannah Murphy.

I am committed to ensuring any form of harassment will not be tolerated and should be challenged, and invite you to join me in upholding fair and respectful behaviour at work.
