PROFESSIONAL AND SUPPORT STAFF WORKING GROUP (pss WG)

The Department has 80 Professional & Support Staff (PSS) (as at July 2020) who provide a key role supporting the department’s research and teaching activities. The purpose of the PSS WG is to:

• Develop and monitor the support given to Professional and Support Staff (PSS) for career development
• Organise networking events for PSS
• Champion and celebrate the work done by PSS within the Department

progress to date

In 2019 we launched our ‘Looking after your career’ workshop series – a series of termly events specifically for PSS focussing on an area of personal/professional development.  A popular element of each event is a short talk from a member of department PSS about their career to date. Development themes have included mentoring, Personal Development Reviews and networking skills.

In 2019 we also set up a network for ‘Project Managers’ as a mechanism for project management staff embedded in research groups in the department to meet and network.

NEXT STEPS

The working group will be reviewing the results of the 2021 staff survey to assess progress against our actions, and to set new actions to achieve our aims.
