Children and Young People in Policy and Decision-Making
Shai Naides, UNICEF
Tuesday, 3 November 2026, 12.15pm to 1.15pm
Hosted by Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Part of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Seminar Series
Drawing on UNICEF’s research and practice, this seminar explores children’s and young people’s participation in strategy setting, policy design and decision-making, examining what constitutes meaningful participation and its relationship to agency, wellbeing and mental health. Combining a practitioner’s perspective on multilateral fora with innovations in youth engagement, it considers the changing landscape of intergenerational governance in global and national policy settings. The seminar will also explore how participatory research, foresight and digitally mediated spaces create opportunities for children and young people to shape decisions affecting their lives, and what it takes to translate their contributions into action.
Shai Naides leads intergenerational governance and participation at UNICEF Office of Strategy and Evidence – Innocenti. His work combines research, strategic foresight and the development and testing of participatory approaches to strengthen how children’s and young people’s perspectives, concerns and priorities can inform policy and decision-making.
This seminar is open to all members of the University of Oxford. If you are not a member of the University but would like to attend, please contact us at oxchildpsych@psych.ox.ac.uk.
