Examining access to mental health services for social work-experienced young people
Julia Mannes, University of Cambridge
Tuesday, 1 December 2026, 12.15pm to 1.15pm
Hosted by Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Part of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Seminar Series
Many children and young people with social work involvement (CYPwSW) experience mental health difficulties. Yet, little is known about factors affecting their access to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). This seminar will present findings from the “CAMHS Referrals and Outcomes for Adolescents and Children with Social Workers” (COACHES) study. It will cover:
• Potential inequalities exposed by the electronic health records and case note analyses
• Involvement of experts-by-experience, practitioners and policymakers throughout the study
Julia is an NIHR Doctoral Fellow at the Child Health & Development Group (CHiLD). She is a mixed-methods researcher and passionate about improving mental healthcare for children with social work involvement.
This seminar is open to all members of the University of Oxford. If you are not a member of the University but would like to attend, please contact us at oxchildpsych@psych.ox.ac.uk.
