Dame Fiona Caldicott sadly passed away yesterday. She was Principal of Somerville College, Oxford, from 1996 until 2012, also serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, responsible for personnel and equal opportunities. From 2009 until 2019 she was chair of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Professor John Geddes, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, said:

 

She was a remarkable woman combining great authority, intelligence and grasp of detail with outstanding kindness and humanity. Fiona was a great leader and an inspiration to all of us. She will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered. It was a privilege to have known her.
