Two of the 11 new Public Engagement Ambassadors selected in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging training programme are from the Department of Psychiatry.

The ambassadors will follow a training programme which will introduce them to the concept of public engagement with research. They will develop further skills in a variety of areas including public speaking, narrative creation, generating ideas for activities, and more. Each ambassador commits to taking part in at least one public engagement activity.

Lucy Jobbins, Research Assistant in the Department of Psychiatry, said:

'I'm excited to be a Public Engagement Ambassador and the opportunity it provides for interacting with the wider research community at Oxford. I hope to create activities that will make our research more accessible to more people and inspire curiosity about the brain.'

Raihaan Patel, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Psychiatry, said:

'I joined the Public Engagement Ambassador programme to learn more about strategies for involving the public in research, as well as how to communicate my research outputs effectively to specific audiences. In doing so I hope to bring my research, focused on dementia risk, closer to a goal of impacting policy and benefitting public health.'
