Research Training Support Grant (RTSG)

The Department will fund £500* per year for 3 years (£1,500) for student RTSG where no other funding is available.  

The intended use of the RTSG is towards conferences, training and travel per academic year (Oct-Sep) for duration of the three-year DPhil or MSc Research.   The allowance cannot be used for any other purpose.  The RTSG should not be used for research costs (including participant payments).   Doctor of Medicine students with Psychiatry are also eligible to access this funding.

You can carry forward any of the unused allowance from one year into the next year(s) but you cannot prepay from future years allowance. You can carry any balance from years 1-3 into year 4 of studies but any remaining entitlement will cease on submission of your thesis. 

To set up an RTSG, please email the Finance Manager (accounts) with the request and confirm your funding source. The Finance Manager will set up a code for you to quote on any expense claim through SAP Concur or purchase order request emailed to Psychiatry orders.

*This payment will be increased to £750 (£2,250 for 3 years) from October 2026.
