The one-year, full-time taught MSc is delivered by pre-clinical and clinical research teams based in the Department of Psychiatry, in Oxford University centres within the neuroscience community, and in the NIHR Oxford Cognitive Health Clinical Research Facility.

Departments and centres who help deliver the course

We participate in the Programmes of the Medical Sciences Graduate School.

The taught MSc is a modular course lasting for one year.  It offers insights into a range of fields including molecular biology, brain imaging, behavioural research and epidemiology.  Teaching and supervision are provided by the Departments of Psychiatry and Pharmacology and the Nuffield Departments of Clinical Neuroscience and Clinical Medicine. The MSc course is delivered by expert pre-clinical and clinical research teams. It provides students with the opportunity to take a translational (“cell to patient”) approach to exploring the causes, the diagnosis and treatment of disease in brain disorders.

In order to progress to terms 2 and 3, students will be required to pass a Qualifying Exam at the end of their first term. The exam is designed to assess basic understanding of brain disorders and their therapies.

Entry requirements include a 2:1 or higher degree (or international equivalent) in any science discipline. Successful completion of a professional training course or professional work experience in the health service or a health-related field may also be considered.
