Adam Bates
PhD
Post-doctoral Research Assistant
Adam holds a PhD in biology from the University of Hull where he investigated the involvement of the non selective cation channel TRPV1 in the development of zebrafish with a focus on cardiovascular and vessel development. From there, he worked in the Tree of Life team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, sequencing the genomes of a variety of plants and animals. He has previously worked on the genetics of the limb girdle muscular dystrophies during his masters degree in medical genetics at Newcastle University.
Moving away from evolutionary biology and back towards medical genetics, he is now applying his lab based skills towards his passions in the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He is currently working on the involvement of voltage gated calcium channels on bipolar disorder under Prof. Paul Harrison.
