Iona Cairns

Senior Research Assistant

I am a member of the SINAPPS research group investigating the neuro-immunological basis of psychosis. I am based in Exeter and coordinate recruitment in the South West including Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall.

During my degree in medical neuroscience I became particularly interested in the biological basis of mental illness. I am enjoying the opportunity to work across the fields of psychiatry and neurology with a view to understanding how physical and psychiatric symptoms are related.

I have worked for various mental health charities previously as a recovery worker, which really highlighted to me the importance of challenging stigma! There is still so much to we don't understand about mental ill-health and this ultimately led me to the wonderful field of research!
