In their Guardian article: "Forget the headlines – schizophrenia is more common than you might think" Daniel and Jason Freeman propose the thesis that the study of schizophrenia should focus on diverse experiences in people, some of whom would consider themselves as 'healthy'. The strength of this proposition is that it is testable: we will be able to check if this approach will generate new knowledge and treatments.

Schizophrenia isn't a specific, rare or rigorously defined illness. Instead, it covers a wide range of often unrelated conditions, all of which are also seen in people who are not mentally ill.
