Clare Mackay is now Professor of Imaging Neuroscience
Mark Woolrich is now Professor of Computational Neuroscience
John Geddes has been reappointed as Head of Department
Seena Fazel has been renewed as Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Science
Professor Clare Mackay says:
“I couldn't be more delighted about being awarded this title. It is the result of a lot of hard work and fantastic support from my colleagues, my team and my family. Beyond my personal delight, this award demonstrates that the University recognises and values collaborative science. The last few years have been a whirlwind of opportunity for collaborative scientists, and I genuinely believe that this heralds a new era of hope for complex diseases and disorders of the brain.”
Professor Mark Woolrich says:
“As a new Professor of Computational Neuroscience, my research will focus on understanding the nature of large-scale brain networks in both the healthy and diseased brain using a variety of brain imaging data; including fMRI, MEG, EEG and local field potential recordings. I will develop novel techniques for elucidating the dynamics of brain networks using a combination of machine learning and biophysical network model simulations, and use these to investigate the volatility and homeostasis of brain networks. In particular, a key aim is to change the time-scales at which we can carry out these investigations, providing access for the first time to the dynamics of brain networks at the very fast millisecond time-scales associated with cognition. The work will be underpinned by a recent Wellcome Trust Investigator Award: “Exploring the mechanisms of distributed spontaneous brain activity”.”
Professor John Geddes says:
“It’s great to be given the chance to continue leading the Department for the next five years. We have a wonderful, vibrant and dynamic team, and a fantastic environment and colleagues. I look forward to building on our achievements over the past few years to deliver ever more trailblazing research, recruit and train the next generation and, working with our clinical colleagues, transform the care we can offer our patients.”
Professor Seena Fazel says:
“I’m excited to be continuing to work on understanding the causes of adverse outcomes in mental illness and also new projects at the intersection of mental health and justice.”
