This online course is specifically designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health professionals, mental health pharmacists and neuroscientists with an interest in evidence synthesis and evidence-based practice, although it is open to all.

Professor Andrea Cipriani, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, leads the 3rd year of the Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses course.

'I'm pleased to be offering this virtual course, which includes an engaging programme of lectures, hands-on tutorials, group discussions and supervised statistical sessions on systematic reviews and meta-analyses of RCTs. Previous participants have said that they have gained knowledge, confidence and enhanced skills from our course, we look forward to welcoming new participants.'

Experts from the Oxford Precision Psychiatry Lab (OxPPL) will outline the most up-to-date knowledge and methods in the field, and how to publish them. The curriculum encompasses the production process of a systematic review from start - review question and protocol - to finish - reporting, dissemination, and critical appraisal - and beyond - publishing.

The topics covered will include:

  • Protocol
  • Search strategy
  • Basic concepts on statistical analysis of RCTs
  • Study selection
  • Risk of bias
  • Reporting of results (PRISMA guidelines)
  • Performing meta-analysis (theory and practice of Review Manager, R and STATA)
  • Paper submissions
  • Practical project presentation

Previous course participants have said:

'I managed to understand concepts that I found very difficult to understand on my own.'

'The course content was brilliantly delivered.'

'The virtual format enabled me to attend without having to fly to the UK... I believe I have been able to absorb as much information as in an in-person course.'
