SUPPORTING CARE STAFF TO COMMUNICATE THE DEATH OF A RELATIVE

We have developed a guide and animation to support care staff with the painful task of contacting families by telephone to tell them that a loved one has died from COVID-19. The first guide takes the care staff through this difficult phone call step by step. This includes identifying if the resident had an important relationship with any children. We have created a guide called Step by Step Guide for Families: How to tell Children that Someone has Died for families that can then be emailed to the family to support them to tell any children.

These resources are free to access and share:

SUPPORTING STAFF FOLLOWING BEREAVEMENT

This animation is for care home staff who have sadly had to face the death of residents or colleagues during the pandemic. It provides an overview of common reactions after a bereavement, and offers simple advice about how staff can look after themselves and their families during these extremely challenging times.
