Your first day
MEETING HR
On your first day, you will meet with our HR Administrator. If you haven’t already, you must provide documents to prove your right to work in the UK. This is your responsibility and if the correct documents are not provided then unfortunately you will not be able to start work.
The HR Administrator will provide you with:
- an induction pack which will include safety, security and evacuation procedures and other department policies.
- your University card, which grants you swipe access to the Department, as well as being a form of identification. In addition, it gives you access to a number of discounts for University employees - but more on that later!
- an MSD (Medical Sciences Division) account to access your computer and the Department network
- an IT Services username (Single Sign-On, or SSO). This grants access to the University’s IT facilities, including email, wifi, library databases, free online learning tools, and more.
your contract and p45
If you haven’t already signed your contract and given your P45 to the HR Administrator then please bring these with you on your first day. If you don't have a P45, complete a Starter Checklist form and send it to HR at hrmanager@psych.ox.ac.uk.
MEETING YOUR TEAM
Next, you will be welcomed by your new line manager and/or team and shown your workspace and given a tour of the building. We have created a checklist to ensure you get all the information you need. You will be shown around our common areas, where we provide free tea, coffee and milk. We encourage you to use these spaces to get to know staff outside of your own team. Please be respectful and keep things tidy (which includes emptying the dishwasher).
SETTING UP YOUR DESK
To ensure your work station/computer is set up correctly to prevent injury, you will be asked to complete an online Display Screen Equipment (DSE) training programme and assessment.
TRANSPORT TO WORK
The University webpages give details of help with loans for bus/train passes and bikes on the travel page. For those arriving on bike, the department has a number of bicycle racks as well as a secure bike shed (code available from the HR Administrator).
PARKING
Parking at the Warneford Hospital is managed by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and eligibility is based on the distance of your commute. If you wish to apply for a parking permit, please contact our HR Administrator.
