Post doc imaging neuroscientist, Dr Sana Suri, named "Rising Star in Dementia Research" by the Alzheimer’s Society

Dr Suri, who recently also won the poster prize at the Global Young Scientists Summit, is an imaging neuroscientist for Whitehall II Study, working jointly between the Department of Psychiatry and OHBA.

I am delighted and honoured to receive this award from the Alzheimer's Society. It has motivated me to continue my research on the use of novel brain imaging methods to study genetic risk factors for Alzheimer's disease. - Dr Sana Suri

Her research combines multi-modal neuroimaging techniques to study risk and resilience for cognitive decline in ageing. She uses structural, diffusion tensor, and functional magnetic resonance imaging to investigate how large-scale connections in the brain vary with age and cognitive status, with a specific focus on how they may be affected by genetic and vascular risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease.

The judges, who were very impressed with the technical aspects of Dr Suri’s work, her publication record and her ability to communicate with a wider audience, awarded her the second place award for "Rising Star in Dementia Research".

The prize is a £500 bursary for Dr Suri to spend on her career development.
