The Department of Psychiatry has launched a small research funding award of up to £1,000 to support academics with a research interest in intellectual disabilities.

Dr Valeria Frighi

In memory of Dr Valeria Frighi, the Department of Psychiatry have launched a small research funding award of up to £1,000 to support academics with a research interest the topic of intellectual disabilities.

Valeria was a thoughtful, compassionate colleague and researcher, whose work made a real difference. Much of her research was funded by the Baily Thomas Foundation. Valeria was a Senior Clinical Researcher and an Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes. She particularly enjoyed teaching and we would be keen to support students with this fund as well as members of staff.

Professor Belinda Lennox, Head of Department of Psychiatry, said:

Valeria was a dedicated and passionate researcher, working to improve health outcomes for people with severe mental illness and intellectual disabilities.  We are so pleased to be able to launch this award in her memory to enable others to continue to pursue these important fields of study."

This is a flexible fund which can be used in a way that best suits the need of the researcher, including consumables, participant expenses, conference registration and travel costs. Whilst the fund is provided by the Department of Psychiatry, we welcome applications from across Medical Sciences.

Applicants will need to provide a 500 word outline of the work you plan to undertake, alongside a description of how you will utilise the funds if awarded.

We have a broad approach to eligibility for this scheme. Funds awarded will be managed through the University of Oxford accounting system so applicants will need to be a member of staff, registered student or work in close affiliation with the University (for example, employed by an NHS Trust).

Please fill in this Microsoft Form application by 12 noon, Friday 24 January 2025 in order to be considered, and for any questions please contact hod@psych.ox.ac.uk.
