Departmental events throughout the year
What's on
We have a host of events, communications, networks and committees to meet our staff’s needs. We encourage you to get involved and invite you to develop new initiatives, which we will do our best to promote and support.
Regular Communications
We are proud of our staff and strive to keep you informed about achievements, activities and opportunities (we hope in a concise and accessible way) through our monthly Department newsletter, weekly news digest, and weekly events digest. We welcome story submissions and suggestions for articles.
Monthly Head of Department Briefings
Held on the first Monday of each month at 9:30am, the Head of Department Briefing provides updates on Departmental decisions, activities, and staff successes. Tea, coffee, fruit and pastries are provided and all staff are encouraged to attend. It is also where we officially welcome new staff.
Department Research Events
We host a variety of research events, which we encourage all staff to attend. Wednesday Research Meetings bring the whole Department together over lunch to hear about current proposals in the Department. We also have weekly Tuesday Research Seminars, an annual Away Day as well as regular discipline-specific meetings/journal clubs.
Social Activities
The Department hosts an annual Summer Social and Christmas Lunch for all staff. A new Social Committee is being formed to organise additional events throughout the year. Initiatives so far include weekly yoga and monthly wildlife walks. We hope you will get involved and perhaps organise some events of your own.
Department Committees / Working groups
The Department has a range of working groups, committees and staff networks that we encourage staff to get involved with. Committee/working group membership is highly valued and it’s a great way to meet other members of the Department and contribute to Department strategy and decision-making.
Public Engagement
We are proud to have an active engagement with schools and communities beyond our Department. The University provides information about how to plan public engagement activities, and public engagement opportunities, activities and support are regularly publicised within our Department. We recognise and celebrate the success of public engagement activity through our annual Award for Public Engagement with Research.
